I know the title sounds extremely cliche, and you must have read paragraphs upon paragraphs, tracking happiness and trying to hunt it down, because believe me, I did, for 8 years. And what did I finally come across? The same old ingredients – hope and acceptance of the change.
I often wondered what it would be like, to be happy. Would it be having the perfect job, or a perfect family, or a perfect love, or would it be making lots of money?
I could not put my finger on it and add to this a history of depression, I thought I was done. There was absolutely no end to my misery or tears. I felt used by my friends, and tortured by life. I thought I would never be happy again.
But, this is the part where hope came to my rescue. Hope is the narrow, delicate bridge that connects you to happiness. Because when you lose everything, the only thing that keeps you going is hope.
Once I had crossed my river of sadness, I decided to work on changing my life because the old one was doing me no good. After a lot of thinking, I realized I could never be happy because I always associated happiness with perfection – that I would be happy only when everything around me was absolutely according to what I want it to be. But I could not be more wrong.
You see, we become unhappy when we start holding on to things a bit too tightly.
When something good happens in our life, we start hoping that it stays the same forever. When we meet a person who shares half of our interests, we start wishing that they never change or go away. But, it is at moments like these that we have to remind ourselves that things and situations do change, and we have no choice but to accept it. We cannot simply keep on running away from this fact.
Life is a misery only when you are stuck with one way of living it.
If you face challenges in your life, it’s not because the universe is conspiring against you. It’s because the universe cares for you enough to tell you that something is coming between you and your happiness and it needs to go away. And generally, that thing is you yourself. The day you accept change and decide to go with the flow of the universe, you will definitely float to the shores of happiness.
You just need to let go of yourself and of others. Let them grow and grow yourself too.
We set all our bets on the fact that people and situations won’t change but sadly my friend, one is bound to lose this bet. Nothing ever remains the same and this is what happiness and life are all about. Just like stagnant water, stuck life also breeds sadness.
We cannot hide from sadness. The more you hide from it, the more it troubles you.
The day you choose to face it, you become happy. Because happiness is not made up of all the right things. It is made up of rights and wrongs. It is easy to stay happy when everything is right but the day you turn the negatives into positives, you become the master of your happiness. It will also be the day when you realize that true happiness comes from within.
In all, no one gets a happy ending in reality as one sees in the movies. There is no perfect life, no perfect house, no perfect friends, no perfect love. It’s just that we come to terms with the fact that life is changing and that change is the only thing we need to hope for.
So friends, be brave, open yourself up, and feel free to try new things and make mistakes because that is the way you will come by what makes you happy!
