What is the definition of happiness?
Happiness is a subjective word. Different people, different ways to interpret it. I used to think being happy means you see yourself being at the top, but when I’m getting older, the sheer feeling of happiness doesn’t necessarily rely on that.
Some people find happiness simply when they eat their favorite foods or even listen to their favorite playlists. Others feel happy from casually being alone, rereading their old favorite book while accompanied by a cup of freshly made warm tea.
However, to certain people like me, it seems hard to find my own definition of happiness.
Our world is filled with usual routines which are something that we don’t look forward to anymore. Simple tasks cause us a lot of pressure and yes, it’s like we’re floating in the midst of this hectic darkness.
We live our lives like a zombie.
Our bodies are covered with scars, unhealed wounds, and fresh bruises, physically or mentally. Walking around, slouching, and eyes on the ground.
This empty feeling makes me confused when someone asks me,
“What does self-love mean to you?”
And that was the time I felt so speechless. And when I got home, I carefully thought about it.
Oh, maybe this emptiness is because I haven’t found love within myself yet.
The way I saw myself in the mirror was filled with immense hatred that I ended up forgetting how to love myself. Not even a single kind word ever came out from me to me. That day was also the first time I realized that I never gave appreciations towards myself for everything I’ve done for pushing myself to do something when I was actually dying inside, and most of all, for trying so hard this whole time to survive.
And that’s when I started to try to change.
I know it’s difficult to change your mindset or the way you see yourself instantly, but do remember the way you continuously fight and never give yourself up.
Dear myself,
You’re strong and I’m very proud of you, love.
To love yourself means to accept yourself completely and to gain happiness means to love yourself entirely.
You are only able to see yourself merely through mirrors and pictures and they are not enough to show you how beautiful your body is, regardless of the size, how beautiful your skin is no matter what tone it is, and how beautiful your graceful smile is. You are beautiful just the way you are and do know that I’ll always love you for you.
You will have more encounters with stormy weather from time to time. However, at the end of the day, the Sun and rainbow will be waiting for you to blossom again. The idea of getting through a hardship will not sound nonsensical anymore if you have faith in hope and yourself. What is the definition of happiness?
Picking up the broken pieces of yourself is tough, but I genuinely believe you are strong enough to do so. Slowly, but surely that one day you will have euphoria embracing you and your beautiful imperfections.
I sincerely pray for everyone’s happiness for the rest of their lives.
Wholeheartedly,
Naddie.
